[LISTEN HERE]

So the First Official HOR Brunch Shitshow was yesterday and I could tell by the illegal amount of Jameson going around and the way Denman was grinding on tables that everybody was feelin’ pretty turnt!  G’wan witcho day-drinkin’ selves!  Twerk ’til the break of dawn!

Anyway, here’s something a bit more low key for ya since I figure the majority of yall are feelin’ the struggle today.  Here’s the latest installment of Fact Magazinet’s mix series featuring an hour long trip curated by German producer, DJ Koze.  Sometimes twinkly, sometimes glitchy, sometimes retro, this mix takes you on a sonic adventure through some of Koze’s favorite releases so far in 2013 – including Herbert, Christian Loffler, Bibio, and a random surprise from Harry Belafonte (which is definitely not from 2013 but it’s okay because it’s a totally welcomed additive to the vibe).  Trust me – it’s a great night to settle in with this one.  Get your life together!

[I regrettably inform you that there is no tracklist for this mix but they're slowly picking it apart over on the SoundCloud page if you're looking for a specific track!]

KW Griff ft. Porkchop – “Bring In the Katz” (.rar Kelly Remix)

SUP DUDES.  I took a tiny hiatus from mixtape hunting but I’m back and I hope you’re ready to turn the fuck up.  Philly DJ/producer, Dev79, just dropped his Street Bass Bootlegs 3 compilation and it’s totally off the chain.  Like, it’s gonna turn your ho hum Saturday cookout into a wild weekend rager – trust me.  You’re not even gonna know what hit ya.

Not only did Dev79 include a rack of his own original productions and remixes in the compilation, but he also recruited other producers like Starkey, .rar Kelly, and Distal to remix everything from Ciara to Mike Jones to Danny Brown.  Tons of boom baps and bone rattling bass to scratch that itch for ya.

Get your god damn life together and download this mixtape.  Don’t act like I never did anything for you.  See ya next week!

Mixtape Monday ft. “Livin in the Past” by Jagwar Ma

Stoopgirl

On a quest to find something different, Jagwar Ma came to my rescue.  The Australian duo just curated this immensely interesting mix for The Fader, titled “Livin in the Past”.   It kicks off with sample from “Groundhog Day” and the rest is history.  ”Livin in the Past” is only thirty minutes long but it’s one hell of a journey.  They guide you through the 60s via The Velvet Underground then through South Africa via Miriam Makeba then through Jamaica via The Wailers and through everything in between.  It’s unbelievable how cohesive “Livin in the Past” is.  Fuck genres.  It’s all about ~vibes~ now and Jagwar Ma is coming correct with it.

Jagwar Ma just announced a new album, Howlin’, expected for release on 6/10, so be on the lookout for that.  Something tells me these guys aren’t tryna be locked into anything but so far everything from their corner has been hella psychedelic.   SO ENJOY LIFE OKAY.   That’s what it’s all about.

Tracklist:
1. Bill Murray – Winter Prediction (Excerpt from Groundhog’s Day)
2. Sonny and Cher – I Got You Babe (Excerpt from Groundhog’s Day)
3. Jono’s Mangled Mosaic with bits and pieces from:
-3a. The Velvet Underground – Here She Comes Now
-3b. Jimi Hendrix – Living in the Past (Excerpt from Hendrix Concerts)
-3c. Lonnie Donegan – Love Is Strange
-3d. J Dilla – Nothing Like This
-3e. Serge Gainsbourg – Requiem Pour un Cour
-3f. Velvet Underground – Heroin
-3g. Primal Scream – Don’t Fight it Feel It
4. Jagwar Ma – Man I Need (Time and Space Machine Dub)
5. Cut Copy – Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix)
6. Mester Geraldo e Sua Bateria – Mistura No.1 (Ma’s What Love Dub)
7. Miriam Makeba – Amampondo
8. Storm Queen – It Goes On
9. A Guy Called Gerald – Voodoo Ray
10. The Animals – The Story of Bo Diddley
11. Oscar Hamond & the Majestics – Soul Finger

Sup yawl.  Happy spring.  I’m a walking Claritin Pill but WHO CARES it’s Mixtape Monday! Today over in DJ Ayres’ corner of The Intertron, this super rad live mix from Nadastrom and Sabo‘s tag team set at Moombahton Massive Brooklyn was posted up and it’s time to *~*vibe out*~*, yawl.  Let the sun go down and turn this mix UP because it’s gonna be just what you need you usher in whatever kinda Monday madness you’re gettin’ yourself into tonight (turn down for what???).

Seriously though.  You’ve probably seen Nadastrom and Sabo tear the roof off U Street Music Hall for their monthly Moombahton Massive parties, but this mix is a little different.  It’s a bit downtempo, hella chill, and just the right speed to get your body warmed up for the rest of the night.  This hour-long set is so seamless and it just goes to show you that bros stick together – these guys are like DJ soulmatez.  If you like what you hear right now, Nadastrom and Sabo will be running the show ALL NIGHT at U Street Music Hall this Wednesday, 4/24, for this month’s installment of Moombahton Massive!

No Tracklist.  Just viiiiiibes.  Enjoy!

Sooooo…springtime was fun right?  It’s gonna be in the upper 80s this week in the DMV so I guess that means we’re skipping spring and headin’ straight into fiery depths of summertime.  Like, you might actually have to go outside let the sun touch your skin.  But fear not, my friends – I’ve got the perfect tunes to make your adjustment pretty painless.

Not Another Corny DJ Promo Shoot: Female “Skin DJ” Edition

kay jayWe seem to have stumbled onto something after launching our first CORNY DJ PROMO SHOOT post back in October.  Since then, I’ve received hundreds of pics from readers who have come across DJ’s cringeworthy promotional pics.  As the pictures kept coming in, I noticed a trend with a lot of female “DJ’s” in their photos.  Most of them were either half naked, doing strange poses, or doing things that have nothing to do about being a DJ but involving DJ equipment.  This prompted further research about female DJ’s around the world and in particular ones who label themselves as being a “Sexy DJ” or “Skin” DJ who market their physical appearance as opposed to skill set.

6193397-hot-dj-listening-music-and-screamingThe more I looked into these skin DJ’s the more I was blown away about how bad and corny they are. At first it was enraging going through all the pics and promotional videos of girls standing around in a booth making sure they looked good before sounding good.  The bad news is that as long as promoters keep booking them, they’ll still have a gig.  The silver lining in that is they only really play at upscale, douchey bottle service clubs where shallow, plastic face people go to overpay for drinks and listen to terrible music anyway.  The day they start to get booked to play major EDM festivals is when you break the glass and pull the alarm. Now before we unveil our pics, vids, and DJ’s I just want to throw out that there are a lot of amazing female DJ’s out there who MURDER IT on the tables and are booked based off strong production, top tier DJ sets, and most importantly just being themselves.  Not a two channel stripper with headphones. So in no means is this post a blanket statement to all female DJ’s because most of them are out their killing it, this looks at the ones who are ruining it for everyone.

Corny Promo Pic Criteria: Usually involves people standing anywhere but in a DJ booth trying to look “epic” and usually holding at least 1 piece of Dj equipment which most of the time is a CDJ, Serato Record, or headphones. The best part about these pics is that there never plugged into anything nor are said Serato records on a turntable. Just out in the city or the woods holding DJ equipment.

These photos, videos, and DJ’s are the best of the worst that we found through the bowels of the internet and what you the readers sent in.  If you have any you would like to share, please post them on the HEAD OF ROTHCHILD FB PAGE

***STOCK VIDEOS***

Here is where things begin to get a little weird.  A lot of our image searches for “Female DJ’s” would lead us to Shutterstock, a site that sells stock photos and videos of people doing random stuff.  When you type in “Female DJ” these stock videos come up.  Basically, this is their general consensus of what a “Female DJ” does.

It gets weirder

“WORLDS SEXIEST DJ” JUICY M JuicymAs we ventured further into the abyss  of female skin DJ’s, we came across this laugher who goes by DJ Juicy M.  She bills herself as the “The worlds sexiest DJ”. When she’s not buying likes on her Facebook page, (lives in Ukraine, most fans in Mexico, C’mon son!) she is trying to get people to take her serious as a DJ.  She attempted to put out a promo video of her cutting and beat juggling but as you can see by the timing but most importantly, looking at the channel outputs on the mixer clearly, it is a pre-recorded mix.  Thanks for playing though, at least check out 1:50 – 2:30, straight clown shoes.

***DJ SABRINA***

Next Level Shit

Not gonna lie, taking a selfie in the booth while DJing is some next level Johnny Cage shit right there.

To this point things have gone from funny, to strange, to douchey, and now it’s going to get really fuckin weird.  A HOR reader from the Netherlands sent me a link to a page where this female DJ starts a photo shoot then things get freaky. I couldn’t understand the language on the site but it’s a photo shoot with this this chick who goes by DJ Sabrina.  The first photo is a typical one of her wearing headphones, no big deal. SabrinaBut after that she’s outside on a farm somewhere gettin fresh with animals.  The fuck did I miss? Here is the photo sequence. sabrina1 sabrina2 sabrina3 sabrina5Where the hell am I? Have the weirdest boner right now.  After seeing that I waived the white flag because my attention deficit internet journey had taken me so far off the beaten path, I never want to see a female “skin” DJ again.  Damn you internet!  Just went to look for a couple of photos and look where I ended up. However, this adventure did teach me a lot.  I learned not to get upset over these ratchet, half naked DJ’s that still get booked because there will always be douchebags somewhere in Your City USA that will book them.  If these girls are going to try and get by on their look then they’ve already limited their shelf life because nobody is trying to see a 35 year old female in a Budweiser bikini train wrecking DeadMau5 Harlem Shake Mash Ups, fuck outta here, B.  I need to shower to get this article off of me.
GOODNIGHT!

Guys. Go outside today. Don’t make me beg you. If you’re posted up in the DMV with us, it’s gonna be upwards of 60 Degrees Farenheit today and I strongly urge you to abandon all obligations and hit the streets for some springtime shenanigans. Oh, hey yawl.  Stoop here with your weekly installment of Mixtape Monday.  Today I’ve got Bok Bok‘s latest mix for the Fade To Mind camp and it’ll be an awesome soundtrack to your life once March Sadness kicks back up later this week.  Heavy bass, sexy vocals, and freaky future sounds will easily counteract all the ratchetness of those nasty brawds.

If you’re not in the know yet, Bok Bok is a part of the Night Slugs/Fade To Mind collective with artists like Kingdom, L-Vis 1990, Mike Q, Nguzunguzu, and the like.  They’re on some future club tip which is actually pretty dope.  These guys aren’t following the leader in the studio – they’ve created a totally unique sound that you can really only hear when you’re fuckin’ with their crew.  Here, Bok Bok demonstrates the most up-to-date cross-section of the very best of Fade To Mind and Night Slugs music.  Something totally different from the standard big room bangers that are rockin’ off today.  Enjoy!
