There’s only two Mixtape Mondays left for 2012 but I’m goin’ full steam ahead because Munchi dropped one of the best mixes of the year over the weekend on Diplo’s afterhours show, “Diplo & Friends”, on BBC Radio 1.  Better late than never amirite?  But got dayum!!!!  In the festive spirit of yolo, Munchi goes hard on this one.

You don’t really hear a lot of noise from Munchi’s corner in the form of social networking but that’s because he just camps out in the studio doin what he does best – banger production.  The very best representation of the fruits of his labor are right here in this hour long mix for “Diplo & Friends”, in which he includes some of his classic productions to brand new heaters.

If you have a friend who doesn’t know anything about Munchi, this is the mix to show him or her.  It totally encapsulates the essence of Munchi, his impeccable skill behind the decks and in the studio, and the truly expansive sources of inspiration from which he pulls to create an engaging set – everything from bachata to moombahton to dubstep.

Treat yourself and go out of your way to listen to this mix!  Dada Life kicks it off for the first hour and Munchi takes over for the last hour. It’s up on the BBC Radio 1 site until Saturday until (hopefully) somebody rips it to SoundCloud.  Enjoy!

The DC homies comin’ correct with the aggressive trap shit. Somebody on Twitter said that trap dancing looks like what you used to do when you were a kid trying to get truck drivers to honk their horns. I forsee a lot of that happening to this song.

First, I’ve got, not one, but TWO, by the trap future bass master, NastyNasty. What grabs me right in the sweet spot about both of these is how they’ve slid right past the big room trend beast that ate this sound whole. They’re a little deep and a little ravey:

Mixtape Monday Presents: @stoopgirl’s Top 10 Mixes of 2012

What up, yawl.  Stoop here.  Bout to hitcha with my fave mixes of 2012!  I’ve been writing Mixtape Monday for Head of Rothchild since September 2011 and have been posting mixes on Cool Breezy for even longer, so I’ve been all up in your musical journeys for some time now.  The following ten mixes are my super faves of the year.  But regardless of their ranking, content, or creative curator, all of these mixes have a very special place in my heart. Some of these mixes have provided the soundtrack to my favorite nights of 2012. Some have made me question my entire existence. Some have forced me to drop down low and sweep the floor widdit. Some have reunited me with my favorite long lost throwback jams of yesterday. Lately I’ve been determining a great mix by the following algorithm:

how much bass face I get + the variety of musical selection x how much it makes me want to jump up and down on my bed

Seems legit, right?  That’s because it is.  I’ve been writing about music for a minute now and it’s very serious business.  And clearly not much fun at all.  But thank the bass gods that Gun$ Garcia’s latest mix for Nail Bomb has exactly the right mathematics to get me up and wilding on this beautiful Monday morning.

You should know Gun$ Garcia from last year’s “Bad Bitches Bomb First” mixtape and also from just being one of the toughest broads on the East Coast with the freshest steez and the ability to get everybody twerkin’ on the dance floor.  And just like “Nail Bomb: The Tipsy Mix”, Gun$ Garcia is not just for girls, even though she reps us the best.  Her care-free attitude and her ear for musical ruckus has a way of bringing out the good time in all of us.

“Nail Bomb: The Tipsy Mix” was mixed live for the first issue jumpoff of “Tipsy Zine”, which you can order here, if you so choose.  But if you just feel like gettin’ down with Big Gun$ Garcia, you’ll be enjoying the club sounds of DJ Sliink; the indie grooves of Purity Ring and Misun; and the trappings of Baauer.  Check your pulse if you’re not in a full-on rage sesh after listening to this mix.

My beloved HORriers, I present to you with yet another “Diplo & Friends” mix that will surely get your blood pumpin’ on this cold Monday morning.  Last week I posted GTA’s mix for “Diplo & Friends” and today we’ve got Dirty South Joe‘s hour-long ratchet demonstration.  And in case you’re keeping score at home, both GTA and Dirty South Joe will be here in DC headlining this Sunday’s Tropixxx Two Year Anniversary party.  See what I did there?  Bring that booty!

SUP GUYS.  Mixtape Monday in dis betch.  The homies Billy the Gent and Cam Jus of one of our monthly moombahton ragers, Tropixxx, just announced the lineup of their two year anniversary party on 12/2 and GTA is headlining!  Not only that, but Billy and Cam hooked Dirty South Joe, The Captain, Starks & Nacey, and The Clown Prince to keep you dancin’ all night long.  Hell yeah – you know all you devoted moombahton heads are gonna cram your sweaty, PBR-drinkin’ bodies all up that little crevice that is Velvet Lounge.  I ain’t mad atcha!  I’m just sayin’…drink water and dress lightly.

But even if you’ve started your weekly grind today (sorry), here’s a feel good mix you can pop in to make your day a bit more pleasant.  ”Love Story” is a mix curated by my homie Blastercase.  He’s a super fun dude that I met through the Uncle Jesse boys at their weekly shitshow, Thrashin’, in Baltimore (still the most ratchet party I’ve ever been to – unspeakable happenings…).  Regardless, Blastercase left Baltimore to work on movie sets or something in LA but luckily he’s still making music because this mix is TIGHT.

So “Love Story” is Blastercase’s sonic interpretation of love.  But no matter what your views are on that black hole of an emotion, you’re gonna enjoy this mix.  Like, can we talk about the fact that he threw in a bunch of MYA tracks?  What ever happened to her?!  And Ciara?!  I heard she was really a dude.  I dunno.  And then there’s Flosstradamus and Clams Casino and Sonora.  It’s a wrap.  I love it.

Salutations, HORriers!  The glorious Mixtape Monday is amongst us and I’d like to share a timely classic with yall.  This “Moombahton Massive Mix” by DJ Sabo is about two years old right now but it might come with brand new sounds for some of you newcomers to the moombahton genre.  Sabo curated this mix (live and in one shot, might I add) around the time when moombahton was still in its days of experimental edits and already bursting at the seams with instant classics.  This mix is also one that I would send to friends who were asking me “What is moombahton?!”  Sabo’s “Moombahton Massive Mix” is just a perfect encapsulation of what the genre was all about in 2010 – intimate, sweaty basement parties right on the verge of big room celebrations.  In fact, Sabo curated this mix to promote the very first Moombahton Massive at U Street Music Hall, which as you may know, will be celebrating its two year anniversary this month.

Moombahton also hit a major milestone this weekend as it held down its own stage at a major festival, HARD’s Day of the Dead celebration in L.A.  Packed with pioneers and tastemakers alike, such as Nadastrom, DJ Sabo, GTA, Bro Safari, and more friends and family, the moombahton stage at Hard – Day of the Dead held its own and stood out amongst the rest.  I’m sure moombahton’s proud godfather, Dave Nada, looked on as a single tear was shed from his eye. *sigh*

Anyway, as one of the true pioneers of moombahton, DJ Sabo made it a point to portray an accurate portrait of moombahton at the time of its jumpoff.  The “Moombahton Massive Mix” features edits and original productions from Dave Nada, Obeyah, Munchi, David Heartbreak, and other OGs.  If you’re new to the genre or just want to revel in its genesis, you definitely want to make sure you have this mix in your catalog.
