On a quest to find something different, Jagwar Ma came to my rescue.  The Australian duo just curated this immensely interesting mix for The Fader, titled “Livin in the Past”.   It kicks off with sample from “Groundhog Day” and the rest is history.  ”Livin in the Past” is only thirty minutes long but it’s one hell of a journey.  They guide you through the 60s via The Velvet Underground then through South Africa via Miriam Makeba then through Jamaica via The Wailers and through everything in between.  It’s unbelievable how cohesive “Livin in the Past” is.  Fuck genres.  It’s all about ~vibes~ now and Jagwar Ma is coming correct with it.

Jagwar Ma just announced a new album, Howlin’, expected for release on 6/10, so be on the lookout for that.  Something tells me these guys aren’t tryna be locked into anything but so far everything from their corner has been hella psychedelic.   SO ENJOY LIFE OKAY.   That’s what it’s all about.

Sup yawl.  Happy spring.  I’m a walking Claritin Pill but WHO CARES it’s Mixtape Monday! Today over in DJ Ayres’ corner of The Intertron, this super rad live mix from Nadastrom and Sabo‘s tag team set at Moombahton Massive Brooklyn was posted up and it’s time to *~*vibe out*~*, yawl.  Let the sun go down and turn this mix UP because it’s gonna be just what you need you usher in whatever kinda Monday madness you’re gettin’ yourself into tonight (turn down for what???).

Seriously though.  You’ve probably seen Nadastrom and Sabo tear the roof off U Street Music Hall for their monthly Moombahton Massive parties, but this mix is a little different.  It’s a bit downtempo, hella chill, and just the right speed to get your body warmed up for the rest of the night.  This hour-long set is so seamless and it just goes to show you that bros stick together – these guys are like DJ soulmatez.  If you like what you hear right now, Nadastrom and Sabo will be running the show ALL NIGHT at U Street Music Hall this Wednesday, 4/24, for this month’s installment of Moombahton Massive!

NBA CHAMPIONS: MIAMI HEAT 
God damn it, looks like they get another ring this year although I’m glad there is no invested interest in it for me this year.  I think the days of a NBA team building itself through the draft and free agency are over.  Just wait 2-3 years for a really good player to get out of a contract, then flock to one team.  The league also needs a healthy Derrick Rose back.

Unlike the NBA’s diva ass, I’ve been all over the NHL this year and as most of you who follow me on twitter know that I am a diehard Penguins fan.  Personally Hockey is taking over for me as being the #1 sport over football.  It’s a smart game that has to be played the right way but most importantly, there is no showboating.  I have become so tired with the NFL and it’s players celebrating after making a 4 yard catch.  Even if  a player gets  a first down or a 20 yard completion they get up, flex, and make a first down gesture.  Another thing about that is the NFL is a player fraternity.  Players on rival teams helping each other up after a play is totally disgusting.  Teams and players don’t hate each other anymore and it’s watered down the sport.  Hockey is nothing like that.  It’s like a biker gang that looks out for one another.  If a player makes a hard check on one of their guys, than the enforcer on that team goes to try and beat the shit out of him.  I love it.  It’s the ultimate team sport and plus the NHL players don’t mail it in when they know their not making the playoffs.  Now that my rant is over,  I have to go with my team to win it’s 4th Stanley Cup this year, and that is the Penguins who will win a very exciting Stanley Cup against the Chicago Blackhawks.

There you have it.  Picking two #1 seeds to win isn’t exactly something to call your bookie up but thats the way things have gone in both of those sports this year.  You have upper echelon teams while everyone else is shit.  Come back this Summer as we are going to be betting BIG this season on NCAA football and NFL.

My go-to show in the 90′s was Mystery Science theater 3000.  I remember finding it flipping channels through basic cable and landing on Comedy Central.  For those who watched Comedy Central back in the day would remember that Comedy Central played mostly stand up performances and older movies like Naked Gun.  I was in middle school then so my life consists of sitting on a giant beanbag chair, eating microwave Mama Celeste pizzas, playing NHL 94 on Genesis, and watching Comedy Central.  Growing up on Mystery Science Theater, I still go through making fun of real life as if I was Mike or Joel making fun of a movie. It probably also helped me in writing all the reviews for bad rappers too.  There are so many to watch that are gold but I thought I would share 3 of my favorites.

So this dude Mala is hella dope.  He’s perfected the ingenious way of blending reggae and cuban sounds with understated dubstep.  Sounds totally weird but it’s actually really amazing.  So, no crazy, obnoxious drops here.  Just some really excellent, moving tunes to vibe out to.

This one’s a two hour Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 so just press play and settle into it.    Trust the kid!  It’s a worthwhile listen.

I was blown away by the size of this dudes clown shoes trying to pass this off as legit. For someone giving “tutorials” on how to DJ and especially how to market yourself as one, I figure I would be able to recognize the guy but I’ve never seen or heard of him. Before I pass any judgement on him, I decided to do some further research before putting my Jordan in his ass.

He has a website DJ Sean Gallager, which is this Geocities style template with a bunch of hella corny promo pics. They could have been on our Corny DJ promo shoot post.

Other than that, it’s just pictures of him with different headliners. No flyers or anything. Now I’m not saying the dude isn’t a DJ, but all this looks suspect. Then I looked at some of his other videos and his stench of shady grew even more. Here is a quick video he did called “DJ Lifestyle” DOUCHE CHILL 5000.

The fuck did I just watch? At this point it’s a laugher so now the only way to find this dudes hustle is to pretend I’m one of the poor bastards who is looking to get into DJing and thinking this is legit.

First thing I did was go to his website to enter my email address that he was asking for in the video. I clicked the privacy policy link to make sure he doesn’t sell my email address to anyone and that link to that was dead. So from a fake email account I signed up for it. Since then, that inbox has been BLOWN UP with spam and junk mail. Like any good drug dealer, he sends you a couple basic ass tutorials that are no different than anything you can find on youtube. Then the more links you click, the faster he takes you down this yellow brick road of disappointment. At last, once the tutorials were over he gave me a link to all his top secret DJ techniques and marketing tips but it lead to this. Sweet victory! I knew this dude was full of shit. Another video I found of his that also tipped me off is he does a bunch of youtube business tutorials on how to get rich quick. So what I’m going to do is tell anyone out there who is looking to DJ, a quick HOR tutorial guide on how to start off as a “DJ”. Free of fucking charge

1. Be humble, don’t be a dick

2. Practice - Lock yourself in a room for 6 months. If you have the basics down by then congratulations, you made your first step in the right direction. If not, congratulations, you were meant to be a club promoter.

3. Music production -If you make your own music, the sky’s the limit, if you don’t the limit is the sky.

4. See number 1 again

That pretty much sums it up. Not really saving any existing DJ’s from getting this because anyone with a smart bone in their body knows this video is clown shit. Just in case for the 1% out there, hopefully this post will save you and for the older heads out there, I think this dude reminded me of Don Lapree. he use to sell shitty paid advertisements back in the 90′s if you remember him.
