It’s Monday.  But Crookers said it best – “DON’T BE SAD!”  Why be miserable when you can be totally rad?

Actually, Phra from Crookers posted this mix a few days ago upon the reveal of their totally devastating news that the Crookers DJ and production duo is disbanding (SERIOUSLY.)  It looks like Phra and Bot are finally going their separate ways after nine exciting years of making serious waves in the dance music scene.  Phra has decided to work solo under the Crookers brand, so the legacy isn’t quite ending, we’re just adding a new branch to this wonderful tree of life, ya dig?

Now that I gave you the “bad” news, here’s the exciting part – “Don’t Be Sad” contains the hypest tracks and A LOT of really dope “New Crookers” tunes as well as solid sounds from homies like Proxy, Van Toth, and A-Trak.  It’s too hard to be a stick in the mud when you got vibes like these rockin’ off.  So dance or go be miserable elsewhere!

Pro-Tip:  If you live the DMV area, you have your last chance to see Phra and Bot together as Crookers for one last time at U Street Music Hall on Halloween!  Don’t miss out on that.

Mixtape Monday ft. “Day Of The Dead Mixtape #1″ by Crookers

SUP YAWL.  I might as well lay it on ya heavy this morning with this Crookers mix, “Day Of The Dead Mixtape #1″.  Presented by HardFest, “Day Of The Dead Mixtape #1″ is only about thirty minutes long but packs a serious kick in the face in typical Crookers style.  Like, you might be able to forgo your morning coffee and replace it with this mix.  UP AND AT EM.  TIME TO CUT A RUG.

Crookers just recently dropped their latest release, Bowser, via Fool’s Gold Records and “Day Of The Dead Mixtape #1″ features several cuts from that record.  We’re talking straight bangers here.  From the energetic cadence in Crookers’ “Big Booty Bootleg” and Astronomar’s futuristic “H3Y I C U PERCUL8-10″ – this mix is rockin’ steady from start to finish.

Mixtape Monday ft. “Jet Jam Mixtape #1″ by Star Slinger

Sup, guise.  Glad you see you all are still alive to see another Mixtape Monday.  But I can’t say the same for my boy, Billy Cundiff.  OOF.  Like, how does that happen?  Just another one of life’s unanswered questions, I guess.

Allow me to drown my sorrows in some tasty tunes from the young bol, Star Slinger.  I’ve posted one of his mixes before, probably because he’s one of my favorite selectors in the game right now.  He has this impeccable ability to mix fresh, new tunes with revamps of old school hits and make it all sound like one unified jam sesh.  Not only that, but he’s like the Wolfgang Puck of cutting samples and cookin’ up the dopest track out of them. So in all of his mixes, you’ll hear his own unique productions juxtaposed with some of today’s hottest club tracks and then he’ll sprinkle in some reworks of old school tracks that make you, “AW SHET I REMEMBER THIS SONG!”  I dunno how he does it so well but I eat it up!

So today’s mix is celebrating his new club night in Ljubljana, “Jet Jam”, where it’s not about genre or bpm but more about party people just gettin’ loose and happy.  And that’s exactly what he accomplishes in this mix – tons of feel good vibes and happy times.  There’s a few Star Slinger originals on there including a brand new collab with Chippy Nonstop called “Sippin”.  Also, “Rack City” make a special guest appearance and I’m not sick of that song yet so that works.  Plus some Crookers and Buraka Som Sistema!?  CMON SON.  We’re having fun now.  Then he throws in some “Indian Flute” and “Jump” by Kriss Kross?!  Game the fuck over.
