Mixtape Monday ft. Munchi’s Mix for “Diplo & Friends”

There’s only two Mixtape Mondays left for 2012 but I’m goin’ full steam ahead because Munchi dropped one of the best mixes of the year over the weekend on Diplo’s afterhours show, “Diplo & Friends”, on BBC Radio 1.  Better late than never amirite?  But got dayum!!!!  In the festive spirit of yolo, Munchi goes hard on this one.

You don’t really hear a lot of noise from Munchi’s corner in the form of social networking but that’s because he just camps out in the studio doin what he does best – banger production.  The very best representation of the fruits of his labor are right here in this hour long mix for “Diplo & Friends”, in which he includes some of his classic productions to brand new heaters.

If you have a friend who doesn’t know anything about Munchi, this is the mix to show him or her.  It totally encapsulates the essence of Munchi, his impeccable skill behind the decks and in the studio, and the truly expansive sources of inspiration from which he pulls to create an engaging set – everything from bachata to moombahton to dubstep.

Treat yourself and go out of your way to listen to this mix!  Dada Life kicks it off for the first hour and Munchi takes over for the last hour. It’s up on the BBC Radio 1 site until Saturday until (hopefully) somebody rips it to SoundCloud.  Enjoy!

Mixtape Monday ft. GTA’s Mix for “Diplo & Friends”

SUP GUYS.  Mixtape Monday in dis betch.  The homies Billy the Gent and Cam Jus of one of our monthly moombahton ragers, Tropixxx, just announced the lineup of their two year anniversary party on 12/2 and GTA is headlining!  Not only that, but Billy and Cam hooked Dirty South Joe, The Captain, Starks & Nacey, and The Clown Prince to keep you dancin’ all night long.  Hell yeah – you know all you devoted moombahton heads are gonna cram your sweaty, PBR-drinkin’ bodies all up that little crevice that is Velvet Lounge.  I ain’t mad atcha!  I’m just sayin’…drink water and dress lightly.

Anyway, in the spirit of Mixtape Monday, Van Toth and JWLS of GTA just finished a guestmix for BBC’s radio rave, “Diplo and Friends”.  I know, I know.  I’ve posted a couple of Diplo & Friends mixes on here but I’M TELLIN YAWL…it’s the jumpoff.  Every Saturday night!  They get shit poppin’ better than half the clubs around here.  And there’s no better way to experience that than to grab the free download of GTA’s mix.  It’s packed with a rack of GTA originals, including my personal fave, “Sunshine”, and their brand new jam, “Booty Bounce”.  Also expect to hear sounds from Benga, Missy Elliott, Clockwork, Laidback Luke, Korn (yup – they went there.), and more.  GTA doesn’t mess around.  This is a super rager from start to finish.  You’re probably gonna have to towel down afterwards.

Mixtape Monday ft. TNGHT’s Full Uncensored Mix for “Diplo & Friends”

Up & at ‘em, yawl!  It’s Mixtape Monday and it’s time for your daily dose of real trap shit.  Today we’re rockin’ with this hour long mixtape from TNGHT, the unstoppable, why-didn’t-we-think-of-this-before, duo of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice.  HudMo has been nurturing a DJ and production career in the dubstep and rave scene while Lunice has been perfecting the art of beatmaking up in Montreal.  The stars aligned and they finally joined forces to form TNGHT, a well-thought-out hip-hop and trap adventure.  It’s a total work of kismet that has rapidly taken the electronic music scene by storm.

TNGHT debuted this mix on Diplo’s show on BBC Radio 1, “Diplo & Friends”.  It’s recently been released in full, uncensored form as a sonically compelling mission statement.  It’s a great concept – a mission statement for a DJ and production team – that you really don’t see much of.  Not many people want to pigeon-hole themselves into a limited spectrum, but TNGHT isn’t afraid to narrow down the options to focus on perfecting a specific sound.  There’s definitely something to be said about that kind of commitment.

With that said, enjoy this hour long mix from TNGHT, which features plenty of “hood classics” from 2 Chainz, Waka Flaka Flame, Cheif Keef, and a rack of originals from HudMo and Lunice.  It’s not quite the standard trap mix, which is great, and more like a feature of excellence from outstanding producers.

Mixtape Monday ft. “Krush Groove Mixtape” by The Partysquad

I guarantee that like, 80% of yawl are totally sleeping on The Partysquad.  I’m not mad, I’m just sayin’.  It’s about time you check them out.  Here’s a mix they put together earlier this month to promo a gig they played at Matrixx in the Netherlands with Diplo a few days ago.  The “Krush Groove Mixtape” serves as a hearty cross-section of today’s popular dance tunes and hip-hop tracks you’re most likely to hear in the club.  We’re talkin’ heavy hitters here like Flosstradamus, Diplo, Dillon Francis, Munchi, Major Lazer, and more.  But most importantly, the entire reason I posted this mix for today’s Mixtape Monday is so you check out those fucking Partysquad gems sprinkled within the mix, like “Badman” and “Lighterman”.  I’m obsessed and I regret nothing.  They’re totally owning that tropical bass sound that goes hand in hand with artists like Major Lazer and JWLS.  I want to hear this everywhere all the time.  But that’s me.  And maybe you, too.  Hopefully.

The Partysquad is a DJ and production duo consisting of DJ Jerry and MC Ruben.  They haven’t really marked their territory here in the US yet but they’re making huge tidal waves of bass in their Dutch-ass stompin’ grounds of Holland.  While they’ve opened for popular hip-hop artists like 50 Cent and Kanye West, they have a masterful handle on the coolest tunes in the electronic music scene as well as a perfect taste for that tropical flair.  You might know them for their exceptional work with Major Lazer on “Original Don” or maybe even their latest release, Badman Rave EP.  To top it all off, The Partysquad’s productions are mainstays in Diplo and Major Lazer’s sets, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t add their tunes to your own collection.

Mixtape Monday ft. “Diplo and Friends” by Diplo

Another week, another mix to listen to while you watch Reed Rothchild destroy The Innernet, one douchebag jerkoff at a time.  This week I’ma put you on to Diplo’s new radio show on BBC Radio 1.  It’s called “Diplo and Friends” and it’s as simple as it sounds.  Diplo and his friends take over BBC Radio 1 and play two full hours of today’s sickest tunes every Saturday night.  I believe it airs around 8 or 9PM on the East Coast and you can stream it live via BBC Radio 1′s website.

The first week kicked off two Saturdays ago with Montreal’s Lunice and Mad Decent’s #1 dude, Paul Devro.  As it was totally fucking rad, I’m posting this past weekend’s show, which was two hours of Diplo rockin’ off.  No guests this week because Diplo’s birthday is coming up and he can do whatever he wants, apparently.

Mixtape Monday ft. “Jet Jam Mixtape #1″ by Star Slinger

Sup, guise.  Glad you see you all are still alive to see another Mixtape Monday.  But I can’t say the same for my boy, Billy Cundiff.  OOF.  Like, how does that happen?  Just another one of life’s unanswered questions, I guess.

Allow me to drown my sorrows in some tasty tunes from the young bol, Star Slinger.  I’ve posted one of his mixes before, probably because he’s one of my favorite selectors in the game right now.  He has this impeccable ability to mix fresh, new tunes with revamps of old school hits and make it all sound like one unified jam sesh.  Not only that, but he’s like the Wolfgang Puck of cutting samples and cookin’ up the dopest track out of them. So in all of his mixes, you’ll hear his own unique productions juxtaposed with some of today’s hottest club tracks and then he’ll sprinkle in some reworks of old school tracks that make you, “AW SHET I REMEMBER THIS SONG!”  I dunno how he does it so well but I eat it up!

So today’s mix is celebrating his new club night in Ljubljana, “Jet Jam”, where it’s not about genre or bpm but more about party people just gettin’ loose and happy.  And that’s exactly what he accomplishes in this mix – tons of feel good vibes and happy times.  There’s a few Star Slinger originals on there including a brand new collab with Chippy Nonstop called “Sippin”.  Also, “Rack City” make a special guest appearance and I’m not sick of that song yet so that works.  Plus some Crookers and Buraka Som Sistema!?  CMON SON.  We’re having fun now.  Then he throws in some “Indian Flute” and “Jump” by Kriss Kross?!  Game the fuck over.

What up, yall!  It’s time to stop cryin’ about Monday’s surplus of suck and start gettin’ your head into the game.  So what’s really hood?  This mix right hyeah!  Mixtape Monday, suckas – LEZZ GO.

Today’s Mixtape Monday is brought to you by Diplo, the wob-wob-wobble of dubstep, and the bum-badum bum bum of moombahton.  Diplo created an extensive mix of pure dopeness for the “Blow Your Head” hour on Sirius/XM last month.  If this doesn’t wake your ass up this morning, you might wanna start doin’ lines of straight coffee grains.  Seriously.

This “Blow Your Head” mix comes correct with proper dubstep party anthems like Kill the Noise’s “Real Life” and Flux Pavillion’s “I Can’t Stop” combined with hoodrat tunes like Meek Mill’s “I’m a Boss” and Tyga’s “Rack City”.  Sprinkle in a little bit of moombahton and new Major Lazer and we’re officially having a good time.  Just don’t let that random Drizzy Drake track throw you off course.

What up, HORs!  Most of y’all 99%-ers are back to work after a long weekend but I’m here to soften the blow a little bit.  For today’s Mixtape Monday, I’ve got a throwback for ya.  Download Mishka’s “Keep Watch Vol. X” curated by Major Lazer to get a load of a little dubstep that doesn’t make me wanna kill myself.  In fact, it’s one of my favorite mixes ever,  in all of the internet, and I want you to know about it if you don’t already.  You’re welcome.

According to Mishka:

Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. The US military rescued him and repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA. His cover is that of a dancehall night club owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP. His true mission is to protect the world from the dark forces of evil that live just under the surface of a civilized society. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered skateboard.

Anyway, “Keep Watch Vol. X” is Major Lazer in all of its lazer-enhanced, renegade soldier glory.  Most of the tracks on this mix is either somebody else’s re-interpretation of a Major Lazer classic; or Switch, Diplo, and Major Lazer himself remixed the track themselves.  Either way, there’s tons of Major Lazer essence oozing from “Keep Watch Vol. X”.  Featuring remixes of M.I.A., Rye Rye, and Bjork, it starts off hot & heavy and easily keeps your attention for over thirty minutes.  You’ll probably be asking for more when it’s all over. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
