Mixtape Monday ft. Mala’s Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1

Stoopgirl

So this dude Mala is hella dope.  He’s perfected the ingenious way of blending reggae and cuban sounds with understated dubstep.  Sounds totally weird but it’s actually really amazing.  So, no crazy, obnoxious drops here.  Just some really excellent, moving tunes to vibe out to.

This one’s a two hour Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 so just press play and settle into it.    Trust the kid!  It’s a worthwhile listen.

Shitty Internet Rappers: The Jolley Brothers

At this point you’re probably thinking I might have uploaded the wrong picture for the a post containing our infamous Shitty Rappers series but don’t worry, that’s them. They go by The Jolley Brothers but would be better suited if they were called the depression brothers because nothing about their music is Jolly (see what I did there?). These two Abercrombie throwaways come from somewhere called Portsmouth, VA where they claim to sell out every show they perform at and are going on a 45 city tour.

Photobucket

Now we’ve got several requests to put these two Luke Walton’s on blast for a while but really didn’t have to much to work with.  They started off trying to do the typical internet rapper gimmick of making ear stabbing rap songs talking how their so fly and amazing even though they look like their names should be Chadwick and Bradley.  So here is one of their earlier rap tracks that will make you want to hate your internet provider for bringing it into your house.  The track is called “Bro’s on top” so as a disclaimer, by law I am required to say *****PAWS***** and *****NO SWIM TEAM**** it’s work friendly, you won’t see anything gay, whether you hear it is up to you.

Alright, that’s a start. Not ready to hand them the Ziplok crown yet but at least we’re working with something. What’s hilarious about these two dudes is that they know rapping wasn’t going to get them anywhere so they tried to crossover into being EDM performers. Virginia’s own LMFA-NO! They started doing college dubstep (people still listen to dubstep?) parties around Virginia and in doing so would have to change their image to appeal to dubstep bros. This is the part of the trip where the passenger unexpectedly grabs the steering wheel sending the car directly into an electric pole causing the power lines to snap and fall onto car. They debut with a track called “Glowsticks and Candy” which not only is produced terribly but has run on sentence lyrics about generic Molly references. MDMA at raves, we get it! Virginia, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I apologize, it’s been a while since we’ve done a Shitty internet rapper and that was a bit harsh to jump back into things. If you want to minimize this window, go take a shower, I fully understand. So obviously dubstep fell off so now it’s time to change it up again. How about a producer name Lex Luger producing a track called “Geeked up”? Surely this has to be some surprise Juicy J VIP remix right? nope, these little Hulk Hogan lookin bama’s just jacked the producers name and pretty much stole the entire Juicy J Geeked up track but of course can’t hold a candle to our Lord and Savior Juicy J.  The only thing that impresses me with this track is that it’s one of the few that they didn’t have to buy youtube views for it.

So there you have it, the musical ink stain of VA.  Follow their FACEBOOK FAN PAGE here just in case any readers have some “constructive” criticism to give and if that video doesn’t get you angry enough check out their recent promo video.  It’s a blood boiler.

********UPDATED 10/30/12 7:58*********

Sorry Jolley Bros but the H.O.R. will not approve comments from you two trying to pass yourselves off as fans or if you’re just being even bigger douches by talking in the third person.  If you’re going to try and be slick, at least hide your email and ip address.  -Dear Leader

HOR in Pittsburgh this Friday

I’m really looking forward to this weekend as I get to go back to the place where it all started, well, technically. I was born in Pittsburgh centuries ago and moved to the mean streets of Montgomery County Maryland when I was three. Haven’t been back to the Burgh since but from what I hear, things have changed a little since 1984. Good news is I get hang out and spin with the ambassador of Pittsburgh, RSK.  Also treated to hear Natask, Etch, and Viralshark. Here is all the event info so if you’re out in the Pitt area, come hang out then eat Primanti Brothers with me.

R4NS0M and DENMAN Attack Your Cerebrum This Friday at ZOo00OOM!

I have two dreams for this final apocalyptic year: The first is to drop beats at as many beer throwin, shit showin, STD knowin HOR parties as I can. My sets at those are pretty much, “You like Maybach music? Great I like Maybach music. Here’s a ton of that. Everyone wins (especially if they can’t remember.) The other dichotomous dream is to continue pushing the ever loving shit out of my career as a mind warping, bass crunching, wonk…e…ing (I don’t know), future bass DJ. Fortunately this Friday will be another chance for me to pump the zygote of that species.

This Friday, at Backbar in DC, (Conveniently located in the sex dungeon of the 9:30 Club), R4NS0M and DENMAN (oh, hey, that’s me refering to myself in the third person) will be dropping the finest in future bass, grime, footwork, UK/Deep dubstep, and drum n bass (go MetalHeadz or go home), so roll the most Louisville slugger of a blunt your foodstamps can acquire (filled with totally legal tobacco of course), and come freak the fuck out to some dirty bass in space. Turnout has been damn good so far, and we’d love to keep the momentum going. Why not be a winner, and peep the facebook event?

Still scratching your downy, water filled cranium? Ok, here’s a bit of what we’ll be dropping:

Mixtape Monday ft. Sirius/XM “Blow Your Head” (11-18-2011) by Diplo

Blow Your Head

What up, yall!  It’s time to stop cryin’ about Monday’s surplus of suck and start gettin’ your head into the game.  So what’s really hood?  This mix right hyeah!  Mixtape Monday, suckas – LEZZ GO.

Today’s Mixtape Monday is brought to you by Diplo, the wob-wob-wobble of dubstep, and the bum-badum bum bum of moombahton.  Diplo created an extensive mix of pure dopeness for the “Blow Your Head” hour on Sirius/XM last month.  If this doesn’t wake your ass up this morning, you might wanna start doin’ lines of straight coffee grains.  Seriously.

This “Blow Your Head” mix comes correct with proper dubstep party anthems like Kill the Noise’s “Real Life” and Flux Pavillion’s “I Can’t Stop” combined with hoodrat tunes like Meek Mill’s “I’m a Boss” and Tyga’s “Rack City”.  Sprinkle in a little bit of moombahton and new Major Lazer and we’re officially having a good time.  Just don’t let that random Drizzy Drake track throw you off course.

Tracklist:
Major Lazer – Original Don
Kill the Noise – Jokes On You
Meek Mill – I’m a Boss / Excision (Spinstyles Edit)
Zeds Dead – Unda Ya Skirt
Tyga – Rack City (Grandtheft Bootleg)
House of Pain – Jump Around (Sabo Bootleg)
Bro Safari – The Worm
GOLF WANG Gartner – Illmerica (Gladiator Remix)
Cassius – I Love You So (Ed Banger)
Drake – U Make Me Proud
Sebastian Ingrosso/Alesso – Calling
Death Cab for Cutie – Underneath the Sycamore (Dillon Francis Mix)
Diplo / Oliver Twizt – GO!
Tony Senghore / Brodinsky – Fire
Metsi – Murfs
Duck Sauce – Big Bad Wolf (Gasseflestein Mix)
Kanye West Jay-Z – Niggas in Paris (Von Toth Bootleg)
Kill the Noise – Real Life

Prepare For Face Meltage with RSK! *HOR Exclusive*

RSK

If you’re trying to turn your brain into straight bass mush, I know who you gotta be chillin’ with this weekend.  Ricky Skullcrusha, aka RSK, from Pittsburgh, PA will be joining Smudge and The Baconator Himself, Reed Rothchild, at Velvet Lounge this Friday night for Keepin’ It Reel.

RSK’s arsenal of tunes are gonna fit right into the “anything goes” format that Smudge and Reed Rothchild have excelled at playing for their fellow party people of DC.  RSK cannot be limited to playing a single genre.  While he will spin anything from juke to drumstep and moombahton to Baltimore club, he’s especially known for his talents within the heavy bass arena of dubstep.  Take a quick tour of his SoundCloud page and you’ll hear an abundance of sounds ranging from video game noises to wobbly bass to hip-hop vocals.  Also, check out this track he created with Doctor P – “Black Books”.  This track has tons of mainstream exposure so I’d be real surprised if you haven’t heard it by now.  In fact, I’d be surprised if you haven’t seen RSK takeover your city yet.  He’s shared stages with Dieselboy, 12th Planet, Borgore, and Skrillex, to name a few.  But this weekend he’s gettin’ down and dirty in the shitshow we like to call DC.

To celebrate RSK’s touchdown into Our Nation’s Capital, we’ve got a supa sweet and exclusive drumstep track for ya – LL Cool J – “I’m Bad” (RSK Remix).  ”I’m Bad” is majorly wobbly update on LL Cool J’s original from the 80s.  Don’t hurt yaselves with this one.  Pro-tip:  You’ll really get into it if you put on your best Addidas jumpsuit and a supa stanky bassface.

Head of Rothchild Exclusive, download: LL Cool J – “I’m Bad” (RSK Remix) HERE

So!  This Friday!  Put on ya bassface, wasteface, and any other weird afflictions you might wanna show off for the party people and get out there to Velvet.  Reed’s makin’ rave bacon.

AUGUST 5TH STEEZ PROMO presents MEGA featuring BOYS NOIZE

Got another big one coming up in DC the first week of August. The fellow bacon loving folks over at Steez were kind enough to ask have me be apart of MEGA. Last month’s MEGA popped off hard as fuck! Tickets for the last one sold out at the door so if you’re planning on going I suggest your order them online that way you can strut into Ibiza care free. Usually I don’t address negativity or people saying bad things about a venue but in this case I feel it’s necessary considering some of the issues that were had last time. The reason I want to address them is because they have been RESOLVED. The line issue has been FIXED. You will not be spending hours waiting in line.  Have to admit it was pretty crowded in there last month but that issue has been FIXED. They lowered the capacity by 500 people and are opening the newly remodeled rooftop. Last thing is the price of water. This issue has been FIXED. they lowered the price of water and you WILL NOT be paying $7 for  bottled water. That was the first time Steez had an event there and every issue has been addressed. I trust Steez enough to cosign on it about every concern being resolved and you should to. Now back to the reason why we come out to events, to HAVE FUN! Here is the line up and ticket information.
