Mixtape Monday ft. “Sun In My Eyes” by DJ Impulse

I just spent the last five days in sunny Miami for the Winter Music Shitshow and all I need to battle these intense warm weather withdrawals is this dope summertime mix from DJ Impulse.  ”Sun In My Eyes” is some real, roll down the windows and let the warm breeze flow, kinda mix you’re gonna need to kick off the warm weather seasons.

I’m pretty sure Impulse had his summer toes out while he was makin’ this mix.  ”Sun In My Eyes” coasts through a summertime stroll through some of the coolest tracks, from De La Soul, Mayer Hawthorne, Treasure Fingers, Marvin Gaye, and Solidisco.  With genres ranging from electro, club, moombahton, hip hop, and disco, this one covers all the bases.  ”Sun In My Eyes” is all about good vibes so make sure you’re collectin’ ‘em here!

Trust the homie!  Impulse wouldn’t be puttin’ together just a random mix of tunes.  He’s practically been DJing out of the womb.   Not only has he opened and DJ’d for hip hop artists like Wutang, De La Soul, and Mos Def, but he also works for the Scratch DJ Academy and is affiliated with the Skratch Makaniks crew.  He’s rockin’ with some of the coolest DJing skills I’ve seen and his broad knowledge of music is impeccable.  Co-signed.

Mixtape Monday ft. “Footwork Vol. 1″ by Jon Kwest

Footwork Vol. 1

In light of Reed Rothchild’s impending takeover of Rock & Roll Hotel this Friday Night for the NEW Clockwork party, I present to you…brand new sounds from our man, Jon Kwest.  Musically, and geographically, dude’s been all over the place during his years of DJing and producing.  He successfully creates masterful tunes in the many veins of moombahton and “East Coast Club”, and he does it with great ease and efficiency.  Kwest stays in the studio and seems to have almost a reliable weekly output of individual tracks and collaborative EPs.  You might know him for his Dust Mask EP, an exciting hybrid of UK Hardcore and moombahton; or his most recent EP, Moombah Marauders, a moombahton tribute to Native Tongues; or maybe his many smooth tracks featured on David Heartbreak’s Moombahsoul EPs.

Last week he’s came correct with a new sound and dropped this gem, Footwork Vol. 1.  It’s wildly different from anything I’ve heard from Kwest so far.  One listen to the ambience and pitched up vocals on “Laura’s Time To Go” and it sounds like Kwest is fully embracing the James Blake movement.  ”No Money Down” carries the same trippy, soulful vibes.  But “Robo Drop” goes hard!!!  It’s got these crunk, hip-hop vocals over what feels like a bit of slowed-down, club music undertones.  Kinda makes me wanna ride real low in the driver’s seat or something.

If you like whatchu hear, he’ll be playing downstairs at Rock & Roll Hotel this Friday night at Clockwork so come through and say wassup!

And as always, if you wanna send me some of your musical gems to release into the World of Rothchild, email me at MUSIC@HeadOfRothchild.com
And if you just wanna cyberstalk me, holla at me on twitter – @stoopgirl.
