2013 Celebrity Death Prediction Contest

A contest so rich, it has more tradition than Notre Dame Football.  Rolling strong in it’s third year, the HOR celebrity death contest has returned to glory. A star shinning bright above the HOR Republic.  As far as the current 2012 contest goes, we will have the results posted in January.  To be totally honest, I laid a dinosaur size egg in 2012 going a miserable 0-5 on my picks.  Just like when any franchise fails during a season of promise, it’s time to blow the team up and rebuild.  This year I’m not bringing back any of the celebs  from last year starting with a brand new roster.  Before we get into my picks for 2013, lets take a look at what the 1st place finisher will win.

PLEASE NO PAST OR PRESENT PRESIDENTS OR POLITICIANS

Sweeeeeeeeet!  Now I give you, my 2013 Death board.

Kirk Douglas - During the year I’ll see celebrities on TV who look so bad that I put a mental note to myself to take a look at them in December for the death pool.  I remember seeing Kirk on TV and my eyes lit up at how bad he looked.  Kurt is my first round, blue chip pick. Lets Play!

Zsa Zsa Gabor - I was shocked when I checked her Wikipedia page and saw she was still alive.  She was just recently rushed to the ER and currently has half a leg.  If she gets through 2013, she can easily have a cameo on the walking dead.

Mickey Rooney -I don’t know much about Mickey except that he’s 92.  Somethings gotta give and in a rebuilding year, safe money is the play.

Scott Hall - Ay Yo, Razor Ramon, one of my favorite wrestlers of all time.  Last year I picked KoKo B Ware and he came out on top but after seeing the espn short on Scott Hall I was like DAMN.  The way he’s going, 2013 can’t be his year.

Billy Graham - Anytime a religion loses one of their own, it’s a step in the right direction. Cya!

Those are my 5.  I challenge you to beat me because this year, I’m back! Of course like we have to say every year, this competition although morally brutal, is just for fun. If you have a problem with what we’re doing at HOR, you can submit a complaint HERE

Good Luck!

Mixtape Monday ft. “Plymouth Prowler Boys” by Uncle Jesse

plymouth prowler boys

[PREVIEW IT HERE]

Sup, assholes.  I got that good Plymouth Prowler Boys mixtape for today’s Mixtape Monday.  I know some of yall been seein’ the hints around The World Wide Intertron and have been anxiously awaiting , but if ya don’t know, Plymouth Prowler Boys is the latest movement from The Greatest City in America.  Also known as, Uncle Jesse to the Nth Degree, lettin’ yall know what the good word is.

If the exclusive white girl “Plymouth Prowler Boys” drops don’t hook you from the beginning, maybe it’ll be the smooth sounds of Drake, the falsetto of Usher, or the full-on ignorance of 2 Chainz.  I mean, if you were ridin’ around and gettin’ it chest naked in a Plymouth Prowler, this might could be something you’d be listening to.  Lucky for you, the “Plymouth Prowler Boys” mixtape also has like, a five mile radius of legit white girl magnetism.  Just give it a minute.  They’ll come.

Anyways, the “Plymouth Prowler Boys” is not just a mixtape.  It’s a lifestyle.  One that involves Rozay, awesome/awful throwback whips, and Phat Ass White Girls.  It’s not always for the faint of heart, but if you can hang, it’ll certainly increase your street cred a bit.  If not, you can always rock the mixtape – just don’t get caught fakin’ the funk.

PS - Allow this “Plymouth Prowler Boys” mixtape to serve as a precursor to Uncle Jesse’s forthcoming “adult” mixtape.  Sorry in advance.

Mixtape Monday ft. “#BitchImTheShit” by Tyga

bitchimtheshit-mixtape-front-cover

I’m not saying don’t take it seriously…I’m just sayin’…it’s not that serious.  I mean, with lyrics like “…cock straw, come and take a sip”, how could you?  But I can’t even front – I’ve been havin’ way too good of a time gettin’ down to #BitchImTheShit.  Tyga is making his major label debut soon but dropped this gem to uh…prepare our palettes, if you will.

It has that “Motto” track on it with Drake and Weezy, which you’ve probably heard at any Top 40 joint in the city lately.  Beckys be ragin’ over this ish.  Can I let out my inner white girl and say that I might could love this track?  CAN I LIVE?!

I mean, I don’t see Tyga bein’ inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame anytime soon, like ever, but #BitchImTheShit has some pretty sick beatz doe.  I will say that #BitchImTheShit starts off pretty strong with tracks like “Bitch I’m the Shit”, and “Bitch Betta Have My Money” but it loses some steam as it progresses.  But if you just want a lesson in bein’ a thousandaire, this should be your first stop.  Young Monaaaay.

Mixtape Monday ft. Star Slinger’s September Mix for Altered Zones

Star Slinger

Y’all ready for this?  It’s Mixtape Monday here at Head of Rothchild!  It’s time to shimmy shake off that weekend hangover and get ya groove on this morning.  To celebrate this short work week, I present to you…a really fun mix from Star Slinger for Altered Zones.  If a three-day work week ain’t enough to get you off dat ass, this mix might help.

Star Slinger, aka Darren Williams, is a DJ, producer, and master remixer from Manchester, UK.  His talents in the studio often end up with him being compared to J. Dilla, but he sees himself to be more like DJ Rashad or DJ Nate, both Planet Mu-affiliates.  Star Slinger combines his long-standing hip-hop influences, particularly southern hip-hop like Three 6 Mafia and old school positivity like De La soul, with a fearless motivation to sample anything and everything to become one of the most masterful remixers in the game.  He has an ever-expanding portfolio of excellent remixes, including Childish Gambino’s “Feaks and Geeks”, Gold Panda’s “Marriage”, and most recently, Drake’s “Over My Dead Body”.  Star Slinger has a particular glitchy, repetitive way of cutting up his samples that make his tracks completely addictive.  Don’t worry, your iPod is not broken – that’s just Star Slinger doin’ his thing.  Lately, he’s been trying to expand his circle of influence a bit and start producing his very own original material.  Listen to his very first original track, “Dumbin’” ft. Reggie B, and you’ll hear how all of these soulful, hip-hop influences come to fruition.

You should find Star Slinger’s Altered Zones mix to be as eclectic as his musical influences.  He combines that kinda hip-hop that makes you ride low in ya seat, like Big K.R.I.T.’s “Return of 4Ever” and Juicy J’s “Smoke That Bitch” with popular house tunes, like Armand Van Helden’s “You Don’t Know Me” and Cassius’ “Feelings For You” and mixes them all in with Major Lazer’s “Can’t Stop Now” and…Bone Thugs and Harmony’s “Crossroads”?!?!?!  HELL YES.  Add in a couple of his original remixes and you’ve got a taste of what Star Slinger is all about. I dunno how he does it, but I’m not mad at this mix at all.  Star Slinger will take you to maaaaany different places while you’re in his zone.  My advice to you is just to sit back, relax, maybe dance a bit? and let it happen.  It’s all about enjoying yourself here on Mixtape Monday.
