Mixtape Monday ft. Ryan Hemsworth’s Fader Mix

ryan-hemsworth

Stoopgirl

I’m such a Ryan Hemsworth fangirl.  Sorry not sorry.  He’s such a babe AND he’s super dope in the studio and behind the decks.  It’s an enticing combo worth exploring okay.  I can’t help myself.  But lemme stop before Reed takes away my taco stipend for gushing over boys all over his website. :(

ANYWAY.  Ryan Hemsworth stopped by U Street Music Hall last week to play with Schlomo and Daedelus and now I’m in love all over again.  Bias aside, his opening set was undoubtedly the highlight of the night.  His sounds are so hip-hop and R&B driven that you would never imagine it coming from this hipster-lookin’ white dude but it so is and it’s awesome.  He’s sitting on a goldmine of syrupy, slow-motion edits and remixes of tracks like KP & Envyi’s “Shorty Swing My Way” and Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” that are perfect for late night boo-lovin’ or something to listen to after you overdose on reruns of The O.C.

Here’s his latest mix for The Fader, which Hemsworth admits is a bit sad, but I think it’s just on some low-key dope tip.  He sprinkles in a few of his own productions in this mix, along with a slew of other top-notch tunes to catch some vibes to.  And if you wanna get to know him a bit more, here’s the interview that accompanied the mix.  Enjoy!

Zebra Bitch!  I’ve been waiting all month, drinking my vitamins and taking my milk for this one… If you in DC I don’t need to sell you on coming out to a Tittsworth show, we already know it’s going to make the walls at uhall sweet early.  You may want to be responsible and just take of work Monday because you’re going to need an extra to get your balance in line.  Amazing lineup of homies and fam that should be a memorable one!  Here’s some a small taste of what you can expect.

Go cop this joint if you haven’t, solid from top to bottom!

Mixtape Monday ft. “Don’t Be Sad” by Crookers

It’s Monday.  But Crookers said it best – “DON’T BE SAD!”  Why be miserable when you can be totally rad?

Actually, Phra from Crookers posted this mix a few days ago upon the reveal of their totally devastating news that the Crookers DJ and production duo is disbanding (SERIOUSLY.)  It looks like Phra and Bot are finally going their separate ways after nine exciting years of making serious waves in the dance music scene.  Phra has decided to work solo under the Crookers brand, so the legacy isn’t quite ending, we’re just adding a new branch to this wonderful tree of life, ya dig?

Now that I gave you the “bad” news, here’s the exciting part – “Don’t Be Sad” contains the hypest tracks and A LOT of really dope “New Crookers” tunes as well as solid sounds from homies like Proxy, Van Toth, and A-Trak.  It’s too hard to be a stick in the mud when you got vibes like these rockin’ off.  So dance or go be miserable elsewhere!

Pro-Tip:  If you live the DMV area, you have your last chance to see Phra and Bot together as Crookers for one last time at U Street Music Hall on Halloween!  Don’t miss out on that.

Tracklist:
Crookers – Trillex (Fools Gold)
Slap In The Bass – Indian Legends (No Brainer Records)
Proxy – Shut Up (Sound of Stereo Remix)
A-Trak & Zinc – Like The Dancefloor feat. Natalie Storm (Shadow Child Remix)
Skitzofrenix & Jeff Doubleu – Bassline
Van Toth – Bath Salts
Crookers – A GoGo *out pretty soon
Chuckie feat. Junxter Jack – Make some noise (Crookers rmx) *out pretty pretty soon
Crookers – Giga
Stabber – S4LM4 (LuckyBeard Rec)
10 Hermitude – Hyperparadise (Ta-ku Remix)
Crookers feat. STS – Get excited
Anubi – Enfant terrible (soon LuckyBeard Rec)
Tyga Ft.Honey Cocaine – King Company

R4NS0M and DENMAN Attack Your Cerebrum This Friday at ZOo00OOM!

I have two dreams for this final apocalyptic year: The first is to drop beats at as many beer throwin, shit showin, STD knowin HOR parties as I can. My sets at those are pretty much, “You like Maybach music? Great I like Maybach music. Here’s a ton of that. Everyone wins (especially if they can’t remember.) The other dichotomous dream is to continue pushing the ever loving shit out of my career as a mind warping, bass crunching, wonk…e…ing (I don’t know), future bass DJ. Fortunately this Friday will be another chance for me to pump the zygote of that species.

This Friday, at Backbar in DC, (Conveniently located in the sex dungeon of the 9:30 Club), R4NS0M and DENMAN (oh, hey, that’s me refering to myself in the third person) will be dropping the finest in future bass, grime, footwork, UK/Deep dubstep, and drum n bass (go MetalHeadz or go home), so roll the most Louisville slugger of a blunt your foodstamps can acquire (filled with totally legal tobacco of course), and come freak the fuck out to some dirty bass in space. Turnout has been damn good so far, and we’d love to keep the momentum going. Why not be a winner, and peep the facebook event?

Still scratching your downy, water filled cranium? Ok, here’s a bit of what we’ll be dropping:

Locks of the Week

See you this Thursday at our favorite club, U Street Music Hall or from what I hear the kids are calling it “U Hall” for short. You can see the “U Hall” debut of DJ 814ofCourse who is also the kinder, more human  half of Riggs and Murtaugh. Also Steve and Nacey are going to be in the building while I drunk ramble in their ears about 90′s fashion. THEN SATURDAY….

We gonna be all on Richmond’s nuts for brain drain. Roooooaaaaaaad Trip!!

The New Year’s Day Hangover Cure at U Hall

Saturday night is gearing up to be a fun one and I don’t even have to blow smoke up your ass about  it either even if I’m playing there.  A solid lineup of just about every DJ in DC so how can you go wrong?  So you went hard as fuck on New Years Eve, that tells me your between the ages of 18-25 No worries, your young just like Wolverine, your body heals fast so come on down once you wake up, go to the gym, and get things done around the house cause thats what you young kids do.  Now for those who are older, I myself is included in this 26 and up demographic are all probably going to sleep most of the day, maybe hit Taco Bell in the afternoon and be on the fence all day about going out since we drank too much Friday and as you know, we don’t recover as fast.  DONT WORRY, U Street Music Hall has got us covered.  The Club is giving away a free Pho Dog and a Bloody Mary and im not talking about Jesus’ wife.  So no matter what age you are, actually wait, fuck that could get us in trouble….If your 18 and up, grab your second wind and come down to Uhall Saturday night.  We’ll take care of the “Fun” part.  Bring your liver and dancing shoes.  I know you’re going to be there all night but here are the set times in case anybody is wondering.  See you there!

Mr. Bonkerz 10-1020

Auto Tune Karaoke at U Street Music Hall 8/5 5-10PM

Happy Hour next Thursday is going to be fun as TGRIonline’s Marcus Dowling is hosting Auto Tune Karaoke. I will also be there helping with everything from music, signing people up to sing, and I might belt out a tune or 4. I really wasn’t into the idea of Auto Tune Karaoke at first. It was discovered by Alvin Risk & Mike from Designer Drugs. When they brought it up at dinner, I really didn’t get it. After a few drinks on a Tuesday night we went down to U Street Music Hall and gave it a go. It was the one of the most fun times I’ve had in a while. Who knew I could rap and sing like a bird? A robotic bird. I can now see why those Shitty Myspace rappers always sing through Auto Tune, it does the work for you! UHall is going to have great drink specials that I will put up once I get them. Its free to get in and a good way to start the night or get ready for the weekend. See you there!
